The heavy felt blanket is used in the yellowXpress 10,000 to supply even pressure to the paper onto the woodtype. The wool fibres act like little springs and pass the energy from the moving steel platen through to the dampened paper.

Dan Fyles - Graphic Designer
Dan Fyles has created an image using a variety of wood type and about to print some copies on the Imperial Press.(180 years old) In the foreground there is a letterpress business card Dan set and printed with lead type on the Pearl Platen press (110 years old)
Eileen McPherson lino printmaker.
Bella ( Eileen's grand daughter) brings the new sheet of incisioni down to the press ready to print the lino cut that Eileen has just inked up in Green Oxide, Akua ink.
Eileen McPherson lino printmaker.
Eileen carved the lino for this flax flower image a few years ago and has been motivated to take a series of prints in the Homeprint Studio. The proof you can see was printed on the 100 year old Hunters proofing press and is A3 in size. The ink for this print is Resista Black from Germany. An oil based ink that is 'green'.
Olivia Murray 5 year old printmaker
I teach the pick and roll motion for quick application of an even coating of waterbased ink. Olivia is demonstrating the technique with an extra feature, inking wood type on the diagonal. ( saves rolling ink onto the furniture)

In purple, Olivia's name set in wood type and printed on the 180 year old Imperial Press.
On the floor behind Olivia is a yellowXpress 5000, the sort of press she used for the drypoint image.

These are the tools and equipment that Olivier used in her beautiful butterfly drypoint print. In order:
pencil drawing the size of her sheet of acetate, dry point stylus (with black plastic sleeve),
acetate with drypoint image scratched into the surface, cotton bud, Akua Mars Black Ink (non toxic, artist grade), Akua wiping cloth and the lovely print (on dampened incisioni paper) Olivia pulled from the yellowXpress printing press.
