Monica is our latest WWOOFer. She is an English artist who gained her Fine Art Degree in USA.
The A3 carry boards for the A3 yellowXpress 5000 need coating with varnish to make them waterproof. The set of 40 has just been completed.

Marion

Marion spend 2 days as artist in residence, to learn how to make a book. Briefly Marion, folded her paper with a bamboo folder, made the sewing holes, sewed the 8 sections together around the strings on the stringing frame, glued the endpapers, covered the spine with mull then paper, made the case and finally glued the sections into the case. Her result was spectacular.

Hannah Lock

Hannah was very patient with her sorting of a wide variety of fonts and sizes of lead type. The first step is to isolate the ones from the same family, size, then find the type tray they belong to and return them safely home. Type that appears not to have a home is placed in a couple of trays put aside for 'sorts'. Muddled type like this is called 'pied' type and was often a job for apprentice printers.

Carving tools.

The set of 7 carving tools for woodcut or lino come in a plastic box.
The blades are stainless steel,with wood handle. There are 2 x knife blades, 2 x gouges, 2 x v tools and a chisel. All of these tools are helpful in carving relief.
I import these from Japan.

bamboo paper folder

On my second visit to Korea in 2009, Narae Kim took me to her artist book supply shop. Wow the wonders to behold. I could have spent all day there. Some bamboo paper folders for bookbinding took my eye because the bone ones I normally use and sell had climbed up to $18 each.
These bamboo ones were lovely to hold and use and a fraction of the price. I bought 50 of them as a start. I have since reordered 3 times, they are so popular!

Don Pybus

Don Pybus has laid out to dry his latest series of 3 colour wood block prints. These are 2011 cards for his family and friends. 'Pohutukawa'. Don has been attending Homeprint for a weekly workshop for the last 12 years!

Albion 1872

An arcroc cup sits on the bed of the Albion (1872) just before being dismantled and taken to the movie set in Auckland City. The press performed its job very well and should appear in a documentary shot about Kate Sheppard's life. In the movie Kate is negotiating the printing of 30,000 flyers, by hand, to be printed on a press like the Albion. Around 1882.

The pool deck has now been painted by Efrain and Ben with 2 coats of weather shield.

Allison Brebner

The silver Mazda Demio Hatchback caught Allison's eye at the car yard and with Leo's enthusiastic support, 'Allison's car is silver', replaced the Honda Hatchback.

Now the lines are so easy to see, Efrain and Ben played hours of tennis after work.

Pronto Plate

Alison Waldrom (visiting 'The Learning Connexion' Student) wets the sponge with the fountain solution, to wet the plate, to roll the ink. This is done a number of times so the ink is saturated on the plate and produces a good print.

Hannah Lock

Hannah Lock spends her last day at Homeprint, as an apprentice for the last 6 weeks, during her holiday break. She is putting the type away from a lovely wedding invitation she designed and printed with Bianca Beauchamp.

Feilding Rangers and Girl Guides

The Feilding Guides and Rangers Group along with 3 of their Leaders spend one and a half hours making a book and then printing some 'clip art' from the Museum collection of homeprint.
Girls sort through the blocks to find one they like to add to their 'clip art' page.
